Born and raised in the United States, Jamie moved to London in 1986 and then to Belfast in 1989 in response to a request to work in community building and reconcilation projects with young people.  In 1991 he co-founded and directed the national award winning project Youth Initiatives in west Belfast. Ten years later he handed on this work to a local team raised up over the years and returned to London to develop the Europe and Middle East regional student outreach work of what is now known as Kairos. In 2008 he founded Jamie Treadwell Coaching in order to focus on leadership development.

Jamie specialises in working with creatives, including creative industry professionals, and business and organisational leaders. Clients range from those at the top of their field through to young professionals seeking to get started on their life and career track. He works with highly committed people who know they have untapped potential, and recognize the value in working with a coach to discover it. His clients are located across Europe and the MIddle East, often using phone coaching as the preferred format.

Jamie is one of the most inspirational people I have worked with. He has an amazing ability to analyse and discern individuals, teams and organisations. As well as good analytical skills he has a remarkable ability to create interventions that can be truly transforming. He is also a real connector who can bring diverse people together and create a fantastic party. If you are offered the chance to work with Jamie, don't miss it!

Over the last 20 years the Rank Foundation has sought to identify individuals with faith in people, those who can foster a sense of self-worth and nurture a sense of purpose in the folk around them. Jamie has been one of those educators who engages people where they are at, relates to their particular context and listens, deeply.

Our first encounter together was in Belfast, Northern Ireland, in the early 1990’s when it was difficult even for the indigenous population to quite get their heads around the circumstance facing their respective communities, let alone relative newcomers to the situation. In the chaos of uncertainty and at times fear; and with the young in communities who are always looking inwards for security Jamie was able to be alongside these people, accompanying them on their very unclear journeys. I think Jamie’s calm outlook and genuine sincerity allowed people to see someone who represented the consistent and reliable individual they had secretly been hoping to find. He stood for something with pretty clear values and wasn’t pushy but he asked a great deal of them in terms of their own energy and commitment to discovering values of their own to parallel his.

I think this approach creates a resonance in others, where many people have an intuition that allows empathy to develop. What ensued was the slow construction of a team that coalesced around this figurehead and the thread of this work has continued on ever since with many younger folk in the disparate and, at times, desperate West Belfast Estates catching the infection. There is a virology to the way that Jamie has presented himself over the years, but it is not overwhelming, and catching the ’bug’ leads to greater personal insight and effectiveness of the individual and not a clone!

Summing up on my experience of a close colleagueship with Jamie is that getting together is always immense fun and often leads to more questions than actual answers. He is held in very high esteem by those of all ages who have worked and shared his wisdom and practical leadership at all levels of organizational and community development. I would warmly recommend him to those who have even an inkling of a desire to explore their passions for life and the next part of their journey.

'Whether with Lebanese school students, university students or older youth leaders, Jamie makes a difference, and a lasting one. I have observed that many would speak of the times before Jamie visited and led training seminars and the time after. They seem to be highly impacted by what they have received, but even more by him who gave. What impresses me the most, is that what remains, many years after the training is over, are bonds of friendship and a relationship with Jamie that continues to inspire and motivate people for the better'

Jamie Treadwell has a 2 decades-long story of dynamic yet understated service to youth and communities both on the fringes, and in the mainstream of Northern Irish life. I have benefited hugely from his skill at troubleshooting, his depth of experience in initiating new projects, his deep faith, and his ability to inspire confidence. His work in pioneering a faith based youth project, Youth Initiatives, in one of the most socially arid areas of West Belfast, at the height of the troubles is remarkable. The fact that that project is going from strength to strength today is testament to Jamie's leadership at its foundation. My own work in a notorious loyalist estate in North Belfast was inspired greatly by Jamie's work and his words of advice to me at its inception.
